The Maui Diaries, Part 2

It happens this way …

The ocean and sunsets: two of Maui’s delights. Unlike New Jersey where you have to pay to go on a beach, all those in Hawaii — like those in Oregon — are open to the public. To give you a notion of the ocean’s variety, here are a few of our favorite photos:

Although the sun sets promptly at 7:02 p.m. this time of year, no two sunsets are the same. Here’s what I mean:

When people say that Maui is paradise, they mean it!

The Maui Diaries, Part 1

It happens this way …

May 16, 2019

All I wanted for my 74th birthday was a sunset walk on a Kihei beach. So when Kathy, her mother Patsy, and I flew out of rainy Portland that afternoon, this wish was coming true. However, we arrived in Kahului Airport to a warm, driving rain. We had to laugh at the weather gods for the irony, but then swallowed our laughter as we drove south toward Kihei. The skies cleared, the sun came out, and a timid sunset greeted my birthday walk. Even an almost-full moon helped me celebrate.

And that’s one of the endearing things about Maui: it is magical in unexpected ways. The many faces of the ocean, the plethora of brilliantly colored flowers, the birds, the people, the experiences: all offer Ah! moments every day.

Stay tuned for more Maui Magic. It continues!
